Health Benefits Of Using Saunas

Nothing feels better on your aching bones than relaxing in a sauna. Originating in Finland hundreds of years ago, it has shown not only to relax a persons mind and body, but has also proven to have many health benefits as well. The way that this relaxing system works is that you enter a small wooden closet-sized room lined usually with cedar planks all around, from floor to ceiling. This room contains no windows or fans, so for people who tend to be claustrophobic may not enjoy it so much. Inside of the wooden room, you will find searing hot rocks. When you close the door, you then proceed to top the hot rocks with water, producing a tremendous amount of steam inside of the room.

When the water hits the rocks, the steam carries all throughout the small room. Breathing in this steam opens up your nasal passages allowing you to breath easier and better. Because of the steam, the pores on your skin are also opened up allowing your skin to be detoxified and the toxins in your blood to be removed. There has been proven research of the great benefit of saunas for your circulatory system as well. When you enter this beneficial wooden box and the steam has occurred, the muscles in your body are able to relax as well as your whole body. In some people their heart rates increases, sometimes by double, which in turn increases your blood circulation up to your skin.

Although many people thoroughly enjoy the benefits of saunas, it is not recommended for everyone. Pregnant women should not use steam rooms. The reason for this is because people can feel lightheaded after their time in a steam room and people have been known to pass out afterwards. It does not happen often, but it does happen, so every precaution should be made. People with very high or very low blood pressure are also discouraged from entering a steam room. Going into a steam room after you have drank even a small amount of alcohol can also have an adverse effect on your body as the steam and heat from the steam room sends the effect of alcohol to your brain at a faster pace, making you feel light headed and highly intoxicated. It is wise to consult with a physician if you have any of these issues and still wish to make use of a steam room.
